Updating DNS Records
Step-by-step instructions for changing your DNS records to point to AtomicEdge.
Step 1: Access Your DNS Provider
Popular DNS Providers
- Cloudflare - Most popular DNS service
- GoDaddy - Domain registrar with DNS management
- Namecheap - Domain registrar with DNS management
- Route 53 - Amazon's DNS service
- Google Domains - Google's domain service
- Your hosting provider - Often includes DNS management
Finding DNS Management
- Log into your account with your domain registrar or DNS provider
- Look for "DNS Management", "DNS Settings", or "Domain Management"
- Select your domain if you have multiple domains
Can't find DNS settings? Contact your hosting provider or domain registrar for help.
Step 2: Choose Your Record Type
Option A: A Record (Recommended)
Best for most websites:
- Find your A record for your domain (usually shows as
@or your domain name) - Change the IP address from your current server IP to your AtomicEdge WAF endpoint IP
- Set TTL to 300 (5 minutes) for faster propagation
- Save changes
Example A Record:
Record Type: A
Name: @ (or your domain)
Value: 198.51.100.10 ← Your AtomicEdge WAF IP
TTL: 300 (5 minutes)
Option B: CNAME Record
Alternative method using hostname:
- Change your CNAME record to point to your AtomicEdge endpoint hostname
- Set TTL to 300 (5 minutes)
- Save changes
Example CNAME Record:
Record Type: CNAME
Name: @ (or your domain)
Value: waf-endpoint-abc123.atomicedge.io
TTL: 300 (5 minutes)
Step 3: Update WWW Record
Protect Both Root and WWW
Most websites need both example.com and www.example.com to work:
For A Records:
@ → 198.51.100.10 (your AtomicEdge IP)
www → 198.51.100.10 (same AtomicEdge IP)
For CNAME Records:
@ → waf-endpoint-abc123.atomicedge.io
www → waf-endpoint-abc123.atomicedge.io
Step 4: Save and Wait
After Making Changes
- Save your DNS changes
- Wait for propagation (5-60 minutes typically)
- Check your AtomicEdge dashboard for "Active" status
- Test your website to ensure it loads normally
Propagation Times
- Minimum: 5-15 minutes
- Typical: 30-60 minutes
- Maximum: 24-48 hours (rare)
Common Configurations
